About the Program

The Undergraduate (UG) program of Information Technology was started in the year 1998. The department has been re-accredited by National Board of Accreditation(NBA) since 2022 for a period of three years. The Department of Information Technology of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) provides high quality education programs by imparting comprehensive knowledge coupled with practical exposure, which is essential for software design, development and testing in the IT industry. The Department provides ample facilities in terms of software and hardware to enable the students to learn by doing. The curriculum is designed to cater to the needs of the industrial organization. It also enables the students to apply a design thinking approach to solve social and industrial problems.

The UG program aims at deepening the knowledge and skills of the students on the basic concepts and theories including computer fundamentals, programming, database management, networking, web development, operating system and other programming principles that will equip them in their professional work involving analysis, systems implementation, operation, production and maintenance of the various applications in the field of information technology. Through courses in data acquisition, automation, and real-time systems, students develop expertise in leveraging IT solutions to optimize production processes, enhance efficiency, and ensure reliability in industrial settings.

The UG course specialization based on cyber security covers key topics essential for safeguarding computer systems and networks. These include understanding the threat landscape, establishing security policies and procedures, managing risks effectively, implementing cryptographic techniques, enforcing access control measures, securing network infrastructure, handling incident response and digital forensics, conducting security testing and assessment, integrating security into software development processes, and addressing legal and ethical considerations in cybersecurity practices. These topics equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to protect against cyber threats and ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data and resources in information systems.

The students are encouraged to actively carry out their projects across various areas of Information Technology and to develop their technical and research skills by attending various workshops, conferences, competitions, etc…

About the Department

The department of Information Technology was established in the year 1998 and accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The vision of the department is to develop the department as a center of excellence in research and development. Our mission is to develop innovative teaching and learning pedagogies among students and infuse scientific temperament.

The department of Information Technology at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science has a long standing tradition of excellence. The program provides a sounds foundation for student wishing to pursue a career in fields such as Cloud computing, DevOps, Networking, Data Sciences, Full Stack Development, Database Development, Software Engineering, Ethical Hacking and Quality Testing through a diverse range of theoretical skills and practical experience, which are presented in the context of real time applications. 

Information Systems have made deep knowledge into every aspect of our daily life. One needs to look around systems that they features almost everywhere. Indeed, it is practically impossible to name any software applications without information. In order to compete with other companies or just remain a step ahead of them, the developers of technical systems and innovative products must be fully aware of both the applications and the limitations of information systems used in them.

The world of information technology is rapidly growing, bringing in marvelous changes in day-to-day life that demands ever changing skill-set from the students. The department equips the students in sound foundational concepts that further enable them to adapt to changing technological needs. To expose the latest trends to the students, value-added courses, MOOC, in-house seminars, workshops, industrial visits are conducted periodically. Hitsathon, and BreakSec are organized every year by the department's Student Club members and professional society, to enhance the technical skills of the students. The Department offers a quality research training experience for its students as well as faculty. The Department also maintains its relevance to world-class research by collaborating with industry and business through local and international research networks.

The Department of Information Technology is actively working with many IT industrial institutions like NASSCOM, ACM and IEEE along with industries such as IBM, Infosys, HTC Global Services, Dlink and more. The Department has established Centers of Excellence in the area of Cyber Security and Machine Intelligence.

The Department has renowned faculties with international experience both in the industry and academics. The faculties are encouraged and well supported by the Department in performing innovative research. The faculties also engage with the industry by offering their services to solve their problems. The Department received the National Level "Best Cyber Security Education Award of the year 2017" from Data Security Council of India (DSCI) for offering the cyber security courses and creating the cyber security awareness in the society through various events and activities.

Honors in Artificial Intelligence:

The Honors program provides a comprehensive education in AI applications, focusing on machine and deep learning fundamentals. Topics covered include deep network architecture, regularization, and optimization, with exploration of convolutional, recurrent, and recursive networks. Ethical considerations, particularly in NLP, such as understanding language in context and societal implications are highlighted. The program aims to develop AI techniques for practical problems, covering data analytics, machine learning, and ethical considerations, as well as introducing computational linguistics and NLP fundamentals. The Cyber Security minor offered by HITS focuses on providing students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for protecting data and systems in today's interconnected world. Key areas covered include security fundamentals, cryptography, penetration testing, software security, and digital forensics, all applied to real-world scenarios. The program aims to equip students with knowledge aligned with industry trends, including cybersecurity goals, offensive/defensive techniques, digital Cyber Security Essentials forensics, incident response, and malware behaviour. Additionally, students learn cryptography fundamentals, cryptographic algorithms, and their applications in Blockchain. CodeChef was created as a platform to help programrs make it big in the world of algorithms, and programming contests. At CodeChef we work hard to revive the geek in you by hosting a programming contest at the start of the month and another smaller programming challenge in the middle of the month. We also aim to have training sessions and discussions related to algorithms, binary search, technicalities like array size and the likes.

Our IT department organized a two days national level Hackathon competition on 30th August and 1st September 2019. Around 360 students from different engineering colleges and universities around India participated in the competition. Mr. Amuthan, Atal Mentor for India, Mr.Ashwin, Manya the Princeton Review acted as judge and chief guest of the event and shared their knowledge

A Zonal Championship cum workshop on Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking was organized on 12th and 13th August 2019. 35 students participated in this event. Mr.Radhakrishnan, Founder & CEO, WhiteHat Global Solutions, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India acted as chief guest and mentor for the event
