SCHOOL OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION
 
The School of Physical Education at the University creates a unique learning environment in sport education which features the following key elements: problem solving, teamwork, interaction with students from within the country and abroad, good interpersonal skills and above all true sportsmanship. The School of Physical Education prides itself on providing quality services to its athletes to enable them to be well-rounded both on and off the sporting field. These services include elite coaching, sport science, sports medicine, sports psychology and career, education and professional development.
 
As part of its services to athletes, several programs are conducted to ensure that each athlete's career, educational and personal needs are met in a range of areas including career opportunities after education.
 
The School of Physical Education at this Institution aims to provide an environment for athletes that will complement and assist their sporting performance. By working with coaches to develop specific needs, their aim is to become the benchmark for athlete service provision in the areas of education. Athletes are encouraged (in conjunction with their coaches) to proactively participate in and effectively manage their own career, education and professional needs. Individualization of each athlete's program is critical to the success of the support provided. Benefits and services provided to athletes includes: skill development training in their chosen sport; specialist advice on sports science and medicine, nutrition and injury prevention; competition and touring experience; strength and conditioning; high level coaching; uniforms and equipment and subsidised travel and accommodation for competition and training camps. The School of Physical Education also help in developing athletes reach their potential by organizing competitions and coaching for high school students of neighbouring educational Institutions.
 
The School of Physical Education provides well-equipped and well maintained outdoor and indoor sports facilities. Students can choose from a number of available sports and games activities to pursue their extra curricular interests and it includes: Aero sports, Water sports, Horse Riding, Tennis, Cricket, Football, Basket ball, Cycling, Volley Ball, Hand Ball, Gymnasium, Go-Karting, Badminton, Billiards, Carrom, Table Tennis, Pool, etc.
 
The School of Physical Education has a unique and well maintained playground and facilities for Basketball, Volley ball, Foot ball, Cricket, Tennis, Horse Riding, Water Sports and other games including an indoor Shuttle Badminton Court. Other indoor games are Table Tennis and Billiards. A well equipped Gymnasium is also available for boys and girls in the University.
 
Students enroll themselves in the School of Physical Education after producing their sports and games certificates, won at the school, national, district and state levels. These students are ensured for selection to our teams to play in various tournaments conducted by the respective institutions and other bodies.
 
The University Fitness Centre (Red Bullz) provides the students residing within the campus to concentrate on their fitness.
 
The students of the University have participated in several state and national level competitions and won laurels. They have acclaimed name and fame in International Karate and Yoga Events too.
 
The 2nd Dr. K. C. G. Verghese Futures International Men Tennis Tournament (ITF) was organized last year and more than 60 players from various countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Germany, Kazakhstan, Japan and China participated. The University enrolled 8 International players (five from Liberia and 3 from Nigeria) with scholarship and stipend to educate and represent various sports and games in and around the country.
 
The School of Physical Education conducts the Fete-de-Sports Meet annually for the staff members of the Institution. It also conducts Olympic Quiz Programme for the educational Institutions' in and around the state. The Management Awards cash prizes for the winners. Last year the winners were also provided with to and fro Air tickets for Beijing Olympics.
 
Recent list of Tournaments hosted by the University School of Sports:
  • The 3rd Dr. K. C. G. Verghese Memorial Inter Collegiate Football tournament was conducted by the School of Physical Education on 25th to 28th January 2010.

  • The 3rd Dr. K. C. G. Verghese Memorial Inter School and Inter Professional Swimming Meet organized by School of Physical Education, Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science in association with Hindustan Sports Foundation at SDAT, Aquatic Complex, Velachery was held from 30th to 31st January 2010.

  • The 19th Dr. K. C. G. Verghese Memorial Trophy for Basket Ball

  • (Men & Women) Tournament was conducted during 3rd to 6th February 2010 in the Air Jordan Basketball Court.
