About the Course |
The Thermal Engineering course lays emphasis on real-time applications of fluid flow and heat transfer in Thermal energy systems, Cryogenic Engineering and Refrigeration & Air Conditioning etc. It trains students in the design, development and simulation and enables them to explore new areas in Thermal Energy Systems and allied sciences. |
Salient Features |
The aim and the purpose of this course is to:
- impart education in the fields of Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, Thermal Design and development of various components.
- instill advanced knowledge of the sciences in the relevant fields.
- augment formal training through lectures, hands-on training courses and workshops.
- provide access to the latest computational fluid dynamics software packages such as ANSYS– fluent, Star CCMe, CFX, Pro-E-Wildfire, CatiaV5, AutoCad 2012,Solidedge, Solidworks 2012,Nastron ,Ansys 13.0 and Abaqus.
- enhance practical know-how through industry – institute interaction.

| Course Structure |
| Thermal Engineering is a two year (four semester) course in which the first two semesters deal ith theory subjects and laboratories and the third semester deals with theory and project work – phase-I and the fourth semester is fully dedicated to project work. |

Eligibility Criteria |
The students with B.E. Mechanical, Automobile, Aeronautical engineering or equivalent thereof are eligible to join in the course. |
Summer Training |
Every student is required to undergo summer training during his vacation period to become aware of the current practices in the industry. |
Project Work |
In-house projects are carried out in various areas such as solar energy-FPC (Flat Plate Collectors), solar based agricultural dryers, flow over submerged bodies like vehicles, Flows and combustion analysis in internal combustion engines, particulate matter settlement -analysis of cyclone separator, CFD analysis of catalytic converter, thermal analysis of electronic cooling system, heat transfer in porous media, cooling of turbine blades, alternate fuels etc. |

Thermal engineering has a wide scope of employment in India as well as abroad. Engineers are employed in the areas of research, development, design and application. There are campus recruitment drives conducted by leading industries and students normally find placement even before completing their coursework and project. Some of the industries involved are: TATA Motors Ltd, Hyundai Motors Ltd, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Maruthi Suzuki Motors Ltd, Ashok Leyland, Hindustan Motors, TCS Ltd., Vestas and Visteon etc.
