The knowledge that is generated in our University is being applied to real-world problems every day. By combining cutting-edge research with graduate and undergraduate education, our research university is also training the next generation of leaders.


The research scholars participate actively in pioneering research studies through Ph. D., M. S. (by research) and M. Phil. programmes. The faculty of Engineering, Science, Humanities and Management conduct research do active research in emerging areas, which often results in highly acclaimed publications in International and National journals and patents. Most of the research work is also presented in International and National Conferences. The Department of Science & Technology, Aeronautical Research & Development Board, Indian Space Research Organisation, Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Resources and Defence Research & Development Organisation, Naval Research Board, Department of Electronics, IGCAR, Atomic energy agencies and other organizations support the institution either giving funds for research projects or providing technical support for tackling the challenging research issues of national interest. Our faculty also undertakes several application oriented industrial consultancy projects with industries in India and abroad and collaborative research projects with foreign universities. Opportunities are available for interested students to participate in such sponsored research, industrial consultancy or collaborative research projects.

The Engineering, Science, Humanities and Management Departments of our Institute are equipped with excellent laboratories, facilities with state-of-the-art equipment. Research works are carried out in the interdisciplinary areas among the Departments which may be pursued by the research scholars for the Ph. D. degree.

Ph.D./M.S.(By Research)/M.Phil. Admissions

Selection Procedure

Eligible candidates possessing the minimum educational qualifications as given in section 7.6 will be called for an interview and / or test by the Dean PG Research Office. No TA will be paid for attending interview/tests. However, applicants from foreign nationals may be considered without an interview or test, (see section 8 below).

Based on the academic records and performance in the interview/test, the selection committee will recommend to the Dean (Research), the names of the candidates found suitable for admission to the programme. Admission offer will be issued by the Admission Office.

 

Fees and Deposits for Ph.D., M.S. (By Research) and M. Phil. Programmes *The fee structure is same for Ph.D., M.S. (By Research) and M. Phil. Programmes and for full time and part time students.

  Categories of Admission:

Following are the categories of Admissions to Ph.D., MS (By Research) and M. Phil. Programmes:

Full-time scholars with or without fellowship.

(i) Part Time External Scholars: Open to employees of HITS subject to rules and regulations of the University.

(ii) Part Time External Scholars: Open to employees of private and public sector organizations or Institutions having
R & D infrastructures and recognized by AICTE / UGC.

Note:

  • All the qualification must be recognized by UGC / AICTE
  • Bachelors Degree holders with CGPA more than 8 and with valid GATE score will also be considered for admissions into Ph. D. programme.
 

Candidates should have passed the qualifying examination mentioned above with first class

 

In those cases where a class is not awarded in the qualifying examination but only marks, the candidate should have obtained a minimum of 60 percent marks.

In those cases where a class is not awarded in the qualifying examination but only grades, the candidate should have obtained a CGPA of 6.5 on a ten-point scale.

For M.A. (English) Degree holders, the minimum marks is 55 percent.

For candidates with teaching or industrial experience of more than six years, a first class in either bachelor's level or master's level is permissible.

The requirement of class and minimum marks or CGPA does not apply if the qualifying degree is M.S. (By Research).

For S.C. / S.T. candidates: second class with a minimum of 55 percent marks is permissible.

Eligibility for M.S. (By Research) Admission

The candidate should have the minimum educational qualification mentioned below or any other equivalent qualification as approved by the Board of Management

The candidate should have passed the qualifying examination mentioned in 7.7 with first class.

 

If no class is awarded in the qualifying examination then the candidate should have obtained a minimum of 60 percent marks or a CGPA of 6.5 on a ten-point scale. Candidates with teaching or industrial experience of more than six years, may be admitted with a second class or a minimum of 55 percent marks is permissible.For S.C. / S.T. candidates: Second class with a minimum of 55 percent marks is permissible.

Eligibilty Criteria for M. Phil. Admission  

At the time of admission the candidate should have passed his / her postgraduate degree in the related branch of study.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Foreign nationals with a valid passport and visa may be admitted under any one of the three categories of admission mentioned in 7.5. Such candidates with degrees from Indian Universities should have the same educational qualifications as mentioned in 7.6 to 7.8 for Indian students. Foreign nationals with foreign degrees shall possess the minimum educational requirements equivalent to the qualifications mentioned in 7.6 to 7.8 as recognized by HITS. After admission, they should apply, through HITS, for the necessary clearance from the Government of India for study in India.

  • International Students should have a working knowledge in English.
  • No scholarship / fellowship for the NRI / Foreign Nationals.
 

DOCTORAL RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP

At Hindustan we believe that research should be nurtured and facilitated with the sole purpose of encouraging intellectual growth irrespective of the other barriers. Hindustan Research Assistance Scheme (HRAS) has been formulated for the scholars in order to facilitate their progress in research programmes.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Doctoral scholarships are awarded to eligible candidate up to Rs 15,000/ per month and can be extended for up to 3 years from the initial award date. Scholarship renewal is dependent upon satisfactory progress as determined by the Dean (Research.)/ Supervisor.

ELIGIBILITY

The candidates admitted and registered for the full time Ph.D. programme in the Engineering, and Technology disciplines in accordance with the regulations, are eligible for scholarship, subject to securing high scores in written tests / interview as per the conditions of the research award. Foreign nationals / NRI's are not eligible to apply for the research scholarship. Final decision for awarding scholarship continuation of course rests with the Board of Directors.

CONDITIONS OF THE AWARD

All the conditions prescribed by the Regulations for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) of the University will be applicable. In addition, students receiving scholarship shall have to teach one subject in the area of their specialization for UG or PG programme until the completion of the Ph.D. programme. The scholar has to assist the supervisor / HOD in the conduct of tests, seminars and departmental activities. The research scholar should publish atleast one paper in national /international refereed journal and present one paper in national/international conference.

Research scholars who discontinue the programme without completing the degree requirements or whose registration is cancelled in accordance with the regulations of the University are liable to pay the entire amount of scholarship availed fromthe University.
